Swallow Evaluation

We are the only private practice in Stuart, Florida that provides Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) to get a direct view of your throat muscles as you swallow.

A healthcare worker in pink scrubs and glasses is smiling and holding a medical swab while assisting an elderly woman with a bandage on her leg, who is sitting in a chair with a cake and a birthday message on her lap.

Here’s how it works:

During the FEES, a small (~3mm), flexible scope is passed through your nose and into your throat while you eat and drink. To make sure you’re comfortable throughout the entire swallowing test, you’ll receive a lubricant  gel so it easily passes. The test itself usually lasts 10 minutes. Once we’ve evaluated your swallowing, we’ll sit down with you to discuss the findings. Together, we’ll create a plan to help you return to your favorite foods and drinks!
